A two part talk: RETRO PHOTOGRAPHY by Geoffrey Rivett: REALISING THE IMAGE Analogue and Digital by Des Hill
Geofffrey Rivett and Des Hill will take through their photographic experience from traditional printing and through to digital home printing.
Both Geoffrey and Des will bring samples of their work for you to examine in the hall. In parallel they are making slides that will be projected in the hall and shared over Zoom. In addition Geoffrey will be exhibiting a few of his favourite cameras.
In the first half Geoffrey will talk about his attitude to film and the sheer joy of his way of working. There will be four sections.
1 His photographic saga
2 Processing at home - with examples
3 Hands on with some of his beautiful cameras
4 Presentation of his ARPS panel from the 1970s.
In the second half of the evening Des Hill will bring us through his journey, in the production of a tangible and finished print. This, was to him, the primary raison d’etre of photography. He will include considerations around the display of the images, also on the wall.
1 1970 – beginning of a journey through the darkroom/s
2 2003-ish – scanning, linking the analogue to the digital
3 2009-on – digital
4 real prints and their presentation/display
This promises to be a very interesting evening with the opportunity to view and discuss issues that are a challenge to us all.
